16 Nov 2021
Jason Brand, CEO of Flight Design, has worked hard to establish a defence company and win work with the Air Force, testing Sensors and Communications systems at altitudes up to 34Km altitude. Flight Design currently has three flights booked for Defence. Two are Balloon based sensor flights and one is flying a drone released from 90,000ft. The company is also building a high altitude drone range in Central NSW. Jason, as CEO, has been at the heart of winning the work and steering the company to financial success. He has been doing this technical work for the last 10 years. Flight Design Pty Ltd was establish in February and has concentrated on R&D during the Covid Lockdown. It has concentrated on building bigger and better systems for balloon flight and now is building high altitude drone systems and other drone capabilities. Jason was only 18 years old when he took the risk of starting Flight Design to do this rather specialised work. The company has been successful in expanding its defence activities in a short time under his leadership. Jason was awarded first place in the AIDN NSW Young Achiever Awards yesterday. At 19 years old he is the youngest to have received this award. He will go on to represent NSW at the AIDN National Young Achiever Awards in Canberra in February 2022.
Don’t let his age fool you. He has been flying balloons to the stratosphere since age 9 and has completed over 40 flights and never has lost a payload. At age 11 he built his first 3 rotor drone and lifted payloads of nearly 2Kg. He got is foundation Amateur Radio Licence at age 9 and conducted balloon flights and payload recoveries in Croatia at 11 years old. It is not his first young achiever award and probably not his last.
